Family Friendly Rights
Particular Focus on:
Advising on all aspects of family friendly rights including:
Pregnancy rights, including time off for antenatal care and health and safety issues;
Maternity leave, including entitlement to Ordinary and Additional maternity leave and Statutory Maternity Pay, as well as “keeping in touch days” and employment rights both during leave and on return to work;
Paternity leave;
Adoption leave;
Parental leave (to care for children under 5 years old or for disabled children under 18 years old);
Flexible working requests, both to care for children under 6 years old (or disabled children under 18 years old) and to care for qualifying adults;
Time off for dependants;
The often complicated procedures that employers need to follow and timescales that need to be complied with;
Avoiding unfair dismissal and sex discrimination claims; and
Drafting family friendly policies and procedures.

We work with employers of all sizes as well as with employees.
Projects for the service worked on:
We have advised employers of all sizes on numerous situations involving employees claiming family friendly rights and assisted employers with matters such as the correct procedures to be followed to avoid unnecessary employment tribunal claims.
We have successfully acted for both employees and employers in cases of unfair dismissal arising out of family friendly rights, many of which have also dealt with difficult issues under the Sex Discrimination Act.
