Taxation

Our clients comprise individuals, companies and trusts, to whom we provide tax advice, both in terms of reducing unexpected liability and also in terms of satisfying reporting obligations.

Individuals will face a number of different taxes on income or on capital transactions, that is sales or gifts.  Members of the tax planning team comprise qualified tax  professionals as well as tax lawyers and they can advise on relevant tax issues, including:

  • inheritance tax on death and steps which can be taken to reduce or eliminate it;
  • tax implications of gifts;
  • the tax liabilities which may arise on the creation of a trust and during the trust’s “lifetime”;
  • specific tax issues for owners and managers of private limited companies who wish to transfer shares, either by way of sale or by way of gift.

The actions which we take on behalf of our business or corporate clients have taxation implications and, therefore, where relevant, we can consider whether a transaction should be structured in a particular way to minimise any tax liability.  The issues which usually arise are capital gains tax, stamp duty land tax and inheritance tax.

We have a team within the tax and estate planning department which deals with the completion of tax returns and other compliance issues for individuals and trusts.
