For HR Professionals…
Keeping up to date with employment law is not easy given the frequency in which new legislation is introduced and the amount of cases which are heard interpreting the law. We can assist HR professionals to meet the challenge that this presents.
For Managers…
For managers, employment law training fulfils a different purpose. Managers do not need to know the intricacies of employment legislation but they do need to know the basics. Managers need to know, for example, how to spot something which could amount to unlawful discrimination or harassment. Managers also need to know how the law relating to unfair dismissal fits in with issues such as of discipline, performance management, absenteeism and ill-health.
Over the last few years, a number of companies retained us to train their managers on the basics of employment law and the feedback from managers receiving such training was overwhelmingly positive.
Risk avoidance…
As well as assisting HR professionals and managers to increase their knowledge of employment law, training can also fulfil another function. Prevention is better than cure or, in employment law terms, better than having a case which will be time consuming and expensive to defend. Training can assist with claims avoidance.
In addition, it can be a defence to discrimination claims for an employer to show that it took such steps as were reasonably practicable to prevent the discriminatory act from happening in the first place. Training can assist an employer to rely on this defence.
